7th December 2017
Yesterday, our Year 9 students were privileged to hear the testimony from Holocaust Survivor, William Bergman, as part of a visit by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET).
William’s testimony included his recollections of Kristallnacht, he was just 5 years old at the time, and how he only escaped for England a few weeks before World War 2 broke out. This year alone William has delivered his testimony to over 9,000 students.
Graham Cole, from the Holocaust Educational Trust, delivered some workshops to our Year 9 students before William’s testimony. Graham commented that he was impressed with the level of knowledge from the students and their level of empathy for the topic.
We would like to thank Graham, William, Mrs Bergman and the Holocaust Educational Trust for this visit.
The Holocaust Educational Trust
The Holocaust Educational Trust was established in 1988. Our aim is to educate young people from every background about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learned for today. The Trust works in schools, universities and in the community to raise awareness and understanding of the Holocaust, providing teacher training, an outreach programme for schools, teaching aids and resource material. One of our earliest achievements was ensuring that the Holocaust formed part of the National Curriculum for History. We continue to play a leading role in training teachers on how best to teach the Holocaust.
